Celebrated Our Birthdays at Pied à Terre in London Ayshim, 20 August 202620 August 2026 We tend to celebrate special days at special restaurants, and in 2024, Pied à Terre Restaurant was the place. I picked Pied à Terre way before the trip as our birthday venue, and my husband made the booking for this special event. Being in the UK for that period was special enough, but the owner of Pied à Terre made it even more special. There were two separate birthday cards placed on our table before we arrived. For this special occasion, we decided to have their vegetarian tasting menu with wine pairing. This is what you do at a Michelin-star restaurant. Our sommelier Ciarán Bagchus did a fantastic job and even scribbled down the names of the wines he picked for the night. The Food at Pied à TerreNow let’s get visual, shall we? Artichoke / Olive / Datterini (left), Beetroot Meringue and Pistachio and Courgette Flower / Broad Bean (right). Baked Jerusalem Artichoke – Hazelnut / Perigord Truffle / Pear Roasted Broccoli Stem, Seaweed, Meyer Lemon and Puffed Wild Rice with Almond (above). This dish “offers a delightful interplay of textures, enhanced by the umami-rich seaweed and the zesty brightness of Meyer lemon. The addition of puffed wild rice and almond provides a soft crunch, making this dish a refreshing and refined experience,” as they say. Textures of Lion’s Mane – Barley / Pine Nuts / Sea Vegetables / Madeira Foam Tete de MoineBlack Truffle / Celeriac / Celery / Muscat Grapes / Sesame and Poppy Seed Lavoche. Here’s how it’s turned into thin, frilly slice: I remember having this particular cheese at our local Italian restaurant Enoteca 128. The person chose swirling the cutter is the owner David. The end product on the plate (above). Sweet Talk Italian Green Fig Brûlée (left) Fig Leaf and Mint Sorbet / Raspberry / Marigold, Olive Oil Shortbread and Vanilla Ice Cream/Creme Fraiche (middle) and Strawberry Souffle (right) Lavender Macaron / White Chocolate Grenache, Orange Cardamom Pate de Fruits and Canele / Dark Rum / Honey with a Happy Birthday message to finish it all off. Just before we left, we leaned over the biggest table of the night, where they were celebrating a gentleman’s birthday and wishing him a happy one. They didn’t let us go, so we chatted with them for a while. If you ever find yourself in the area, please try Pied à Terre for an incredible Michelin-star experience.
