byron bay trip: urunga Ayshim, 19 February 202619 February 2026 By using the kitchen facilities, we had our last breakfast at Bayview Beachfront Apartments, packed our bags, loaded the car and headed toward Port Macquarie. But first, we stopped at Urunga. UrungaWe planned to visit Urunga on the way to Port Macquarie, as we had promised ourselves we would visit at least one place from the leaflet our hosts in Coffs Harbour gave us. Urunga is also a great place to have lunch, as we were told; however, Urunga didn’t deliver its promise in the lunch department. It was absolutely awful. The young waitress didn’t want to be there, and she messed up our food twice. So, I didn’t even bother to take a photo of it. Anyway, the place itself was so pretty we forgot about the lunch fiasco. Urunga is famous for its beautiful, iconic boardwalk stretching over the river to the ocean, where you can spot dolphins. There is a protected lagoon, perfect for swimming. The lagoon looks quite pretty as you can see from the photos. There are picnic and BBQ facilities scattered around. While we were desperately looking for a toilet, we ended up at one of those caravan parks. Even the caravan park was well-organised, and it also looked quite busy. Urunga was once a vital port, and its history is tied to logging and shipping. You could still spot remnants of this era at old pilot station sites, which didn’t see. Today, it’s a relaxed (and quite sleepy) coastal town with a lot of seagulls. Watch out for those guys because they may come and grab your food even though they look incredibly friendly and bold. For more information on Urunga, please visit this site. Well, after visiting Urunga and having a terrible lunch, we were on our way to Port Macquarie.
