    byron bay trip: newcastle

    Ayshim, 2 March 20262 March 2026

Our Byron Bay trip has finally come to an end, and I can safely say that it’s been a lovely holiday. Let me give you a recap:

Newcastle lunch stop and Coffs Harbour overnight.
    Five nights in Byron Bay.
Dining in Byron Bay: No Bones and Yulli’s.
    Return trip: Urunga
    Return Trip: Port Macquarie

On our way home, we stopped at Newcastle to have lunch and also have a look around, which we didn’t do the first time.

It turns out, Newcastle is quite pretty. There is history written across the facades of churches, buildings and the modern touch with today’s technology blends in nicely.

As we walked around the CBD, we found this cafe with such industrial charm: Neighbours on Market Street.

Neighbours on Market Street’s menu had quite a few vegan/vegetarian options and I picked their vegan bruschetta. It’s basically woodfired mushrooms, caramelised onion, hummus, Somalian spice mix, green harissa, tahini, crispy chickpeas served on charred Uprising Farmers sourdough bread. To keep the healthy theme going, I had a cold pressed juice called daily greens (apple, cucumber, celery, pineapple, spinach, kale).

After we replenished ourselves, we were on the road again to pick up Kimi and go home as a happy, relaxed family. She was quite happy to see us.

As I wrote this post, I found out that Neighbours on Market Street Cafe is still around, and now it’s a cafe by day and a restaurant by night.
