oberoi hotel, bangalore – india Ayshim, 5 March 20055 March 2024 I arrived in Bangalore on my own after a nice stopover in Singapore and the moment I stepped outside the airport I was greeted with a big crowd and a waft of hot weather. My husband was waiting for me outside with a car and a driver from our hotel and the ride from airport to the hotel was my first glimpse of this technology hub of India. And yes, they do have cows here and there and they stop traffic or divert at the best. We’re staying at Oberoi Hotel, and it is located on this shopping and business centre called Mahatma Gandhi Road—also known as MG Road. MG Road is shiny and very busy. I mean India busy. Cars, rickshaws and a flood of people busy. I already spotted quite a few sari shops on the way. Oberoi Hotel in Bangalore has all the good qualities of a 5-star hotel and more. Each room has a private balcony and garden view, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a falcon from your balcony. Dining at Oberoi BangaloreThere are many restaurants within the building as well as outside in the garden area. We had the opportunity to try both Southern and Northern Indian cuisines at the hotel but one of the highlights was their Thai restaurant called Rim Naam. Never knew you could actually deep fry spinach leaves and still keep them in one piece without a drop of oil. It was amazing! Oberoi hotel was also the place where I realised I like Southern Indian dishes more than any region’s cuisine. Rim Naam Thai Restaurant at Oberoi Bangalore The Polo Club Bar was another great place to dine. It’s an all-day lounge and bar kind of place, which has both indoor and outdoor seating, overlooking the garden. They had an area under the portico and that’s where I had this incredibly refreshing lychees and mineral water drink which I will never forget. They also do food, cocktails and tea. I saw a lot of casual business meetings happening there. The bookstore of Oberoi has a lot of books in English from classics to some of the more recent, modern reads. I spent quite a bit of time looking at books as well as souvenirs.
